The wisdom of loving yourself

Updated: Mar 22

It has been said and taught on how to treat others so frequently but no one taught us to love ourselves, or even that doing something would help us love others more.

Self-love is never an easy job. When we did something below expectation, we may sometimes fall into the anxiousness of not being good enough, judging ourselves harshly instead of appreciating ourselves for what we did.

“If I love myself I love you. If I love you I love myself.

- Rumi

The thing is as we go through this process and we are able to cultivate compassion for ourselves we can empathize with others and show compassion to them. So Rumi's quote makes complete sense to love yourself is to love others.

Next as we learn these things we lead by example and inspire others to create the same loving change within themselves.

What Does Self Love Look Like

  1. Start a gratitude journal and commit to writing down at least three things you’re grateful for each day.

  2. Say no without guilt.

  3. Say yes without fear.

  4. Give yourself time and space to meditate as little or as long as you like at the start of each day.

  5. Play like you did when you were little I.e. baseball, swinging, monkey bars, board games, silliness.

  6. Write yourself a love letter.

  7. Massage, facial, or spa day; as a thank you to your body for all she does for you

  8. Write a celebration list, of everything you’re proud of accomplishing in your life so far. No matter how small or big. Read it back to yourself, and feel proud.

  9. Prepare and cook yourself a delicious meal from scratch.

  10. Create a self-love playlist, filled with songs and music that make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.
